Mary Tattoo Picture

Is it sin to have tattoos / contradictory to the verses in the holy book ?( that I know if it's a sin to have tattoos on display in public if deliberately to describe the feeling brave ,tough,or whatever ,but tattoos were not sin if not exhibited in public or accidentally )

According to a general sense, tattoos are an art form that inspired the character or soul of a person in the form of the selected images or an inspiration in his life, false if I have a tattoo though pictorial cross, the face of Jesus, Mary, or other related to religion catholic ? because I strongly believe in God, because with these tattoos me closer to God
